Method for mapping annual time series (1984-present) of the locations and areas of wetlands in the Prairie Pothole Region from Landsat satellite images, currently designated as “Hybrid DSWE (Dynamic Surface Water Extent) + GSWE (Global Surface Water Extent)”.

With the help of one expert GIS technician, and three summer casual GIS technicians, we completed the wetland inventory. We shared this product with ECCC AFOLU group. For year 3, we have been required to upgrade the methodology to incorporate revisions in estimations.

Based on the previous wetland inventory, a derived product was developed and shared with ECCC AFOLU team. This product has a historical wetland conversion rate from 1970 to 2020. It is to say how many hectares/wetlands have been shifted from wetland to other land uses, and how many have been rewetted after drainage.

This product was funded by a different ECCC fund, but it is in direct relation with objective 5.2., which aims to include wetlands in the National Inventory Report. A manuscript is in progress to submission to Carbon Balance and Management.

Developed an integrated column sampler for collecting dissolved GHG samples from a drone.

Ecosystem flux (diffusion & ebullition data), isotopic and sensor-based metabolism data, and vegetation and soil sample data from wetlands surveyed in southern Alberta.
